4. Origin
The only item still missing in the previous overview is the origin of the coordinate system. In case this is unspecified, which is the case for most supported image formats - besides DICOM, we will take the origin as follows:
Looking at the front of the equipment device, the origin of the coordinate system will be located in the lower right corner at the back of the equipment device gantry.
As an example: for transversal slices in a patient based supine head first coordinate system (= equipment based ) the origin of the coordinate system will be located in the lower right corner of the very first transverse slice as illustrated in the picture below.
